September 8, 2011; Miami, FL– Jose’s Hands, a charitable organization that raises money for first-year medical school students, announces its annual Jose’s Hands Weekend, Friday, October 21st to Saturday, October 22nd at various venues around Miami. This yearly celebration that helps raise money for students wanting firsthand exposure to health, social, and cultural experiences in developing world communities, will welcome over 500 guests between the three planned events.
Jose’s Hands Weekend is an ideal opportunity for business within the local and medical community to support enhance their image by supporting medical missionaries who are taking up the calling to go out into the world and use their gifts and talents to reach out to the less fortunate. Last year’s charity weekend helped raised over $15,000 that helped send 10 first-year medical school students on a trip to the Dominican Republic. This year Jose’s Hands Weekend hopes to double that number by raising $30,000 in the hopes of sending 25 students to Peru, Haiti, and back to the Dominican Republic.
The weekend of events are as follows:
Kick-Off Networking Happy Hour – Friday, October 21, 2011
Cinco Cantina & Tequila Bar, Merrick Park – 6pm – 10pm.
The networking event will bring together Miami-based organizations that are involved in medical mission work to any degree. Guests will enjoy a 1-hour open bar, a raffle for prizes and great networking opportunities. A portion of the checks spent during the event will go to Jose’s Hands. More Info and RSVP
Charity Golf Tournament – Saturday, October 22, 2011
Don Shula’s Golf Resort, Miami Lakes – 11am – 6:30pm
The 2nd annual Charity Golf Tournament registration begins at 11:00 AM, Shotgun start at 12:30 PM. Lunch and soft drinks will be provided before the tournament. There will be gift bags with golf goodies. Prizes include a scooter, gift certificates to a local restaurant, and a nightclub VIP package. Prizes are awarded for closest to pin, longest drive and overall team score. More Info and RSVP.
Charity Gala – Saturday, October 22, 2011
Viceroy / Club 50, Downtown Miami, 6:30pm – 10:30pm
The 3rd Annual Jose’s Hands Charity Gala will benefit medical mission trips to the Caribbean and South America. This year’s theme will be “Havana Nights from the Sky”. We’ve been blessed with a beautiful location: the 50th floor of the Viceroy Hotel on Brickell, overlooking ALL of Miami. It’s the highest pool in Miami. The event will feature silent auction, live entertainment, cigar roller & dominoes, one (1) hour open bar & drink specials throughout the night and light hordevours & food stations.
The cost of the event is still being determined, but expect to pay between $50-$60 per couple. More Info and RSVP
ABOUT JOSE’S HANDS
Jose’s Hands was established asa non-profit organization to honor Major José Jamil Miranda and perpetuate his values and memory by enabling a medical student to explore an area of public health in a unique and under-served setting, and by creating a permanent connection between José’s family and the world.
The grant provides funding for first-year medical school students seeking to participate on a medical mission to underserved or underrepresented communities outside the United States.
