7wJ1In late March, a group of students from the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami depart on their annual medical mission trip to the village of Los Hoyos, Dominican Republic with 45 medical students and 11 volunteer physicians to provide education, dental care and medical care. Jose’s Hands is supporting first-year medical school students with $1,500 in assistance.

Led by Steven E. Chavoustie, M.D., FACOG – Medical Director, MSA, Medical Students in Action is a group dedicated to serving the impoverished people in rural areas of the Dominican Republic. They currently serve the villages of Hoyes de Niza, Las Cabirmas, Los Botaos and Rancho al Medio in the San Cristobal region.

Our mission at Jose’s Hands is to encourage lifelong involvement in charitable medical missions by providing first-year medical students firsthand exposure to health, social, and cultural experiences in developing world communities. We are helping MSA first-year students that couldn’t otherwise afford to go on this trip.

This year marks their 10th annual trip, but the 1st year that Jose’s Hands provides educational grant support to MSA.
